Originally known as Aliaune Thiam, Akon gained immense popularity in 2004 after the release of his debut album Trouble. His second album Konvicted gained him a Grammy Award nomination. Apart from his credible albums, Akon is also well known for singing hooks and more than 150 guest appearances. He is also the only person to have held the top two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Some of the other ventures Akon have been associated with includes introduction of a new record label Kon Live Distribution with Interscope Records. Along with signing his first artist Ray Lavender, he also featured in Gwen Stefani’s album The Sweet Escape.
